The Pottsville Republican Herald newspaper
reports that the Pa. Department of Health plans to release the results of the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry's investigation into the Hometown area's unusually high rates of polycythemia vera, a rare blood malignancy, on Wednesday, Oct. 24. The meeting is supposed to take place from 7 to 9 p.m. at
Best Western Genetti Inn & Suites in Hazleton. The meeting was originally set for Sept. 29 but
postponed because officials said they needed more time to review the data. In the interim, however, Dr. Vince Seaman -- the ATSDR's lead researcher on the study -- has
moved to Mozambique.
